Yelkouan shearwater with ring number EE04229 has bred in nestbox NB23 at l-Irdum tal-Madonna since 2019. In 2021, as part of LIFE Panpuffinus we tracked it with a gps-logger during the chick-rearing period. It made multiple trips to Sicily and the Gulf of Gabes, Tunisia.

LIFE PanPuffinus!

BirdLife Malta’s EU-funded LIFE PanPuffinus! project aims to protect two endemic and threatened Mediterranean seabirds, the Yelkouan Shearwater (Puffinus yelkouan) and the Balearic Shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus), through a unique transboundary collaboration for joint large-scale conservation efforts. The project started in 2021 and will run until 2025.
